A Message from

Dr. Jones

Welcome!

I am Dr. Sheila Jones and this is my first year as principal of Los Padres Elementary school.  To share a little background about myself, I am an Air Force wife.  I began teaching in the state of Georgia in 1989 and traveled with my husband to the states of Colorado, Texas, Alabama, and Hawaii.  I feel honored to have taught in all states listed.  We have now come to the end of my husband’s military career as he is now retired as of October 2007.  We feel honored to reside in Lompoc Valley with our two daughters, who are students at Vandenberg Middle School and Cabrillo High School.

I enter Los Padres Elementary believing that WE work together for the building of student futures.  Therefore, I am excited to learn our school has an active PTA.  I encourage all parents who are new to the community to get involved.  I also hope you will visit our school website for awareness of various activities initiated by our PTA.

We, the staff, identify ourselves as “Life-long Learners” and stand by the school theme of students who are learners for life!  With that in mind, we believe in teaching our students the academic subjects as well as modeling integrity, responsibility, respect, and appreciation for others.

Learning should be an exciting experience.  We have included a few academic support features that children enjoy!  Students venture into the world of technology by taking a computer class and extend their reading skills visiting our school library each week.  Students have the opportunity to participate in accelerated reader and accelerated math programs.  Our fourth and fifth graders participate in Battle of the Books.  We invite parents to assist us in helping students to see the benefits of reading.

To show our students how much we appreciate them, we have award assemblies and distribute incentives throughout the year.  I am excited to be apart of such a dynamic staff.  I have been greeted by many smiling faces.  There is definitely an atmosphere of joy on our site.

My goal is to make our last year at Los Padres Elementary an exciting school year.  I plan to get to know all of our students and hope to meet all families.  Remember, we work together for your child’s successful future.
